World Storytelling Day - My Friend Grief

Grand Theatre & The Grand Pillow Society

Grand Theatre

Grote Markt 35, Groningen

17,-

zo, 23 mrt - 18.00

Grief is not just an end; it is also a beginning—a profound force for transformation and healing.

Join us for an evening of powerful short performances by storytellers, poets, musicians, dancers, comedians, and more—each offering their unique perspective on grief. Together we explore the many faces of grief: the loss of what we love, the parts of ourselves yearning for acceptance, the sorrows of the world, the longing for community, and the ancestral echoes within us. We invite you to engage with grief as a friend and guide.

An immersive evening of art, reflection and connection, celebrating the resilience and transformation found in this shared human experience.—‘Those who undertake the full journey into their grief, come back carrying the medicine for the world.’ – Francis Weller

The evening includes a shared vegan dinner, served after Ramadan fasting hours.

For those who wish to extend their journey, the festival’s magic lingers into the night. As the stage dims and the curtains rest, the theatre transforms into a dreamlike slumber retreat. Bring your own mat and sleeping bag, settle into the atmosphere, and let a bedtime story carry you into the next act of the experience. Wake up to a slow morning with movement and a shared breakfast.

Here you can find the house rules for the overnight stay.

My Friend Grief is a World Storytelling Day special – every year in March the Grand Theatre offers the Pillow Society space to make a special experimental event around World Storytelling Day.
