In the 12th century the Iranian mystic and poet Farid ad-Din Attar wrote The Conference of the Birds: an allegorical poetry-bundle wherein birds from all over the world meet in the quest to find their king. The story expresses a fundamental human need; to feel connected, to feel at home somewhere.
One of the poems in this elaborate work is about the Phoenix – the mythical bird who dies and rises up from its own ashes, over and over again. From this imagery ‘The Song of Phoenix’, was born. Composer Shahab Azinmehr translated Attar’s poetry into a lively musical interpretation. Together with Nathan Daems, Seraphine Stragier and Farnoosh Khodadadeh, they created a performance that makes Attar’s words come to life in a rich landscape of music, song and poetry.
We are delighted to announce that on Friday night the 26th of June, the MEHRNAVAA-quartet will perform ‘The Song of Phoenix’ in Grand Theatre.

The debut album of the MEHRNAVAA-quartet ‘The Song of Phoenix’ was recorded in the beginning of 2026. Their release-tour is set to be played in 2026-2027.

In de 12e eeuw schreef de Iraanse mysticus en dichter Farid ad-Din Attar De Samenspraak van de Vogels: een allegorische dichtbundel waarin vogels van over de hele wereld samenkomen in hun zoektocht naar een koning. Het verhaal vertolkt een diep menselijk verlangen: de zoektocht naar verbondenheid, naar ergens thuishoren.
Een van de gedichten uit deze bundel gaat over de Feniks — de mythische vogel die sterft en telkens opnieuw uit zijn eigen as herrijst. Vanuit dit beeld ontstond Het Lied van de Feniks. Componist Shahab Azinmehr vertaalde Attars werk naar levendige muziek. Samen met Nathan Daems, Seraphine Stragier en Farnoosh Khodadeh maakten zij een voorstelling die Attar’s woorden tot leven laat komen in een rijk landschap van muziek, zang en poëzie.
Op vrijdagavond 26 juni brengt het MEHRNAVAA-kwartet Het Lied van de Feniks naar het Grand Theatre.
Het debuutalbum van het MEHRNAVAA-kwartet – Het lied van de Feniks – werd in het voorjaar van 2026 opgenomen. De releasetour van het album staat gepland voor 2026-2027, zowel in binnen- als buitenland.
